A Corporate Video That Does What All Corporate Videos Should Do

The OCE corporate video , seen at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LiZK7NGhp5M , is a refreshing video which reminds us what a corporate video should be about. The video doesn’t merely tell us what the company does, it shows us who it is. It imbues us with the reality that this multi- national printing and document company is made up of warm hearted human beings who care about the people who use their products and appreciated the satisfaction customers get from their services. The video connects the reality of the employees’ humanity to the millions of people, around the world, who use their technical services.

The transformation accomplished by this video is better shown than said. In an early segment, the narrator tells us that “People around the world are doing extraordinary things, and OCE is helping them.” On screen, we see a woman in the park using her cell phone to take a photo of two people in love. A Japanese businessman’ sitting on a bench near her, lifts his head up from the newspaperpaper  and smiles.

The image is rich with association. While Ose is a Scandanavian company, we associate computer technical products with the Japanese. A man lifting us his head from his paper to smile at a woman using a digital camera is like an employee of the OSE company taking a moment off from his work to smile at a customer, who uses their products. The video suggests that OCE is not a distant impersonal corporation, rather their employees can even relate to two people in love who benefit from company  technology.

The iamge the video conveys is one of hard working corporate employees who are first and foremost, warm hearted human beings who are personally happy that they are bettering the lives of their customers. This is the essence of what the video brings, and it is perfect.

As the video continues, the same message is conveyed in other ways. Two scenes show OSE applications in use. Documents are successfully reproduced in an office, and a truck cdriver holding OSE adocuments is delivering a large payload to a receiver. The two scenes are linked and personalized by an office employee, who shows appreciation for the successful printing, and then looks out the window appreciatively as the truck completes its job. The message imparted is that OSE really cares about their customers getting successes from their products.

OSE has a network of outsourcing centers around the world. However this video does more than portray the outsourcing centers, we also see happy graduates grasping diplomas produced by an OSE printshop, operating personal utilizing technical data printed by OCE, and corporate personnel, walking down a large office corridor holding OSE printed documents. The narrator enhances the visual effects by employing such words as “personalized,” “customized,” to describe the printed material. We see architects at work in the field examining OSE created blueprints, and engineers at work inspecting OSE created building plans and then we see the professionals toasting the finished building. We see that the UN and other government agencies use OSE documents as well.

Only after the video has effectively introduced the company in a personal way, are we told that the corporate headquaters is in the Netherlands and that the company employs over 24,000 people worldwide. This was excellent placement. Had they started the video with these facts we would have watched with boredom, thinking “who cares?” Now, however, OSE has become a personal acquaintance and we are wondering “Where is this company located?” How big are they?”

The video than adds another creative segment. It changes course and describes the story of the family that founded the company. The Grandfather of the founder of OSE invented the food coloring used in margarine. His grandson invented a pigment used in printing and initialed his findings with the abbreviation “OC,” hence the corporate name. The historical interlude comes at a time when we already like the company, and personalizes it even more.

The video concludes the historical recap by returning to the present and telling us about the work the company does today. Now, we listen with interest and concentration. We feel we know this corporation, which for many, was just a name beforehand, and we want to know what they do.

Long before it reaches the end, the video has succeeded in fulfilling the essence of what a corporate video should do. In a few short minutes it has personally introduced us to the people and stories behind the corporate giant OCE.
