How to Export Movies With the Window’s Movie Maker
Once you have finished making a home movie, you want to enjoy the fun of sharing it with others. To do this, you need to publish and save your movie in a format that is compatible with video viewing software. In this article I will describe how this can be accomplished using the Windows Movie Maker.
If you are using the Windows Move Maker, then as soon as you have finished editing your movie, decide where you want to send it. Will you be sending to others by email, will you be publishing it on You Tube or will you be sending it to a different editing program to add more special effects. Once you determine what you will be doing with your video, you are ready to proceed.
With your video clips all arranged on your storyboard or time line, open the tasks menu and inspect the drop down box. You want to look in the finish video section. You now have several options. You can choose to save the video to your computer. You can choose to save it to a CD or to a DVD. You can send it via email, or you can send to an Internet spot. Finally, you can send it to your video camera.
If you want to view your video on a video player you can choose to save it to your computer. When you click this option, you will be directed to choose a file name and file location. Fill in the file name and then browse until you locate the folder where you store your videos. Then click next. You will now be asked to select the format in which you want to save your movie. The default format for the Windows Movie Maker is WMV. This format is compatible with Windows Media Payer and with You Tube. If you want to use the default format just click next and the wizard wil begin saving the movie to file. Because video files are so large, this may take a long time.
After your video is saved it can be attached to an email or sent to You Tube. If your file is more than 1 gigabyte, it will be too large to be sent by email. You Tube has increased their size limit to 2GB. If your movie is larger than that, you will have to use a program that compresses file sizes, and recodes into a format compatible with You Tube. You can, for example, use Dr. DivX for that purpose. You can also choose to save your video in another format such as AVI. To choose AVI, click “show more choices,” instead of next on the choose format page. You will now have the opportunity to open up a drop down menu of different types of format. AVI is listed towards the bottom. AVI is a more precise format than WMV. It allows more precision editing and it allows files to be compressed for easy delivery through the web. It can also be used for uploading to You Tube.
The movie maker allows you to entirely skip the save to my computer step if you wish to send the file directly via the email or place it on the Internet. You simply select email or Internet. If you go with the default settings, the movie will be published in the WMV format. There are additional links within that task pane that will allow you to save your video as well as send it. Good-luck!
