Working With The Windows Movie Maker Clips and Story Line
On first view, the window movie maker clip system seems formidable and a little strange and arbitrary. The fact that the Windows movie maker will automatically break up video film into small clips on downloading is frightening. How will the software know where to make the cuts? What if it creates a cut in the middle of a scene? In truth, the clip creation process is very scientifically based, and there are opportunities to change the structure of the clip selection later on.
The process of clip creation is not random and is not based only on the creation of equal segments The process is digitally controlled and includes factors such as the perception by the editor of sudden changes in the content of successive frames that indicates a natural transition in the footage. Should the computer program misread a change, and break up a scene too soon or fail to break up a scene, you have a chance later on to correct that. You can download individual clips onto the movie maker time line and either further split them up into smaller segments, or bind two or more clips together into a larger clip. So in the end, you have total control over the clip production process.
Once your clips have been created, you have additional opportunities to change their structure during the actual editing process. To manipulate the clips you can either drag them into boxes arranged in a story line fashion or you can attach then to the video time line. Dragging clips into the boxes helped you fashion a movie that tells a story. Attaching clips to the time line, on the other hand, allows you to have specific control of which part of the video you want to edit. It also allows you to divide the clip in to smaller segments, trim parts of the clip, and attach sound to the clip via the audio time line. All during the process, you can monitor your progress by clicking on a specific clip and watching the product on the Window’s movie maker monitor.
Once you have finished editing you video, you can save and publish all the clips together as a movie file. The movie file can then be transferred to a disc, sent to friends in an email or downloaded to You Tube.
